Field of Flowers Pastel Painting. "Chicory"
While teaching a workshop near Bryce Mountain Virginia, I desperately needed a pharmacy. After winding my way around the mountain roads, I came to the small adjacent town that should have medical assistance. After procuring what I needed, I was stunned by this scene. At the time the field in this painting didn't remind me of France, but while making the painting I was struck by the similarities. Chicory is a beautiful blue flower that grows in challenging locations. Here, chicory covered the field in a soft blue/violet. This painting is 11 x 24 inches and is framed in a wide silver-leaf, all wood frame. The glass used is museum glass, which has virtually no reflection and a UV protection.
