Often, it's the small quirky things that attract us when we are traveling. The textured, ancient walls will enchant you, as will even some contemporary architecture. This is Italy, after all, so the food is not to be surpassed either! You will be nourished in multiple ways.

I feel strongly that spending time in a different culture and seeing new things sparks inspiration. Therefore, I would suggest that we spend time making art, but also spend time immersing ourselves in the culture. As a tour leader at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery for over 20 years, I love sharing my insight into artwork that we encounter while on tours.”

Why Reggio Emilia?
Italy is a dream destination for a reason—stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, incredible food, and often beautiful weather. But many of Italy’s most popular spots are overrun with tourists. That’s what makes Reggio Emilia so special. Tucked away from the crowds, this hidden gem offers an authentic experience of Italy’s rich history, culture, and world-renowned cuisine. Think aged balsamic vinegar, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, and crisp, sparkling Spergola wine—all specialties of the region. Add in the warmth of the people, inspiring scenery, and a chance to slow down and truly savor Italy. So really, the question isn’t why Reggio Emilia—it’s why not?
Lynn is such an intuitive teacher. She meets you at whatever level you are on as an artist, knows exactly what you need and works tirelessly to get you where you want to be as an artist. I always learn something new and exciting from Lynn and just having the opportunity to have the week with her to pick her brain and feed on her expertise is an experience I will always be grateful for. — Sandy S.
Agriturismo Cavazzone is located in the small town of Viano, outside of Reggio nel Emilia. It is owned and managed by Joan (our tour coordinator's) dear friend Umberto Sidoli, who also owns the Hotel Posta in town. At Cavazzone, we will be fortunate to have many vistas from which to paint, including from the gazebo, pictured here. In addition to the painting schedule, we’ll have a demonstration of the balsamic production and a cooking lesson. As you can see from the photograph, we may set up our easels on the grounds of the hotel with the opportunity to paint to our heart’s content. If it is raining, we will have an indoor studio space in which to work. |

About Joan (Tour Coordinator)
In 2008, the seed of Artful Journeys was planted in her brain, when Joan brought together all of her life's passions - her love of music, an affinity for the beautiful things in life, and an ability to organize events - to give birth to Artful Journeys, a program of art education trips for the soul.
Joan was born and raised in the apple country of the Hudson River Valley in New York; her father was a gentle, very tolerant, educated land surveyor, and her mother was the efficient business administrator and home engineer. The youngest of four children, Joan was encouraged to pursue anything she wanted, but also to do her best. Sometimes that was difficult, especially
succeeding three very accomplished siblings.
