Ready to spark your creativity?
Come to Portugal & let your inspiration soar!
Imagine waking up to a delicious breakfast while watching the crashing of the ocean waves.
Experience the beauty of Portugal with fellow artists in Cascais, just 20 miles from Lisbon, but a world away from the hustle and bustle.
Join us in a week-long adventure to see why Cascais attracted the attention of artists, writers, and expelled European nobility in the 20th century.
Often, it's the small quirky things that attract us when we are traveling. The textured, blue tiled walls will enchant you. Even looking down will charm you. Take a look at that Portuguese pavement. Patterns galore! The food and wine are not to be surpassed either! You will be nourished in multiple ways.

I feel strongly that spending time in a different culture and seeing new things sparks inspiration. Therefore, I would suggest that we spend time making art, but also spend time immersing ourselves in the culture. As a tour leader at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery for over 20 years, I love sharing my insight into artwork that we encounter while on tours.”

Why Cascais?
All you need to do is stroll to the beautiful town center with its traditional Portuguese character, numerous shops, and restaurants to see why Cascais is special . It offers a variety of historic monuments, grand villas, and informative museums. While walking along the waterfront, you will see the fishing harbor, the exclusive marina and the restored fort that houses artisan studios and shops. And, of course, there is the ocean and the stunning beaches where you can sketch, paint, or simply breathe in the ocean air.
Lynn is such an intuitive teacher. She meets you at whatever level you are on as an artist, knows exactly what you need and works tirelessly to get you where you want to be as an artist. I always learn something new and exciting from Lynn and just having the opportunity to have the week with her to pick her brain and feed on her expertise is an experience I will always be grateful for. — Sandy S.
The Albatroz Hotel is a unique boutique hotel which sits near the crashing ocean. Staying at the Albatroz is a lovely experience where you will combine your love of art-making with your adventurous side. Lynn and Joan (our tour operator) have personally stayed at the beautiful Albatroz Hotel and were charmed by the perfect location, steps away from the boardwalk where gazing out to the sea is not a dream, but a reality. We may set up our easels there with the opportunity to paint to our heart’s content. If it is raining, we will have an indoor studio space in which to work. |

About Joan (Tour Coordinator)
In 2008, the seed of Artful Journeys was planted in her brain, when Joan brought together all of her life's passions - her love of music, an affinity for the beautiful things in life, and an ability to organize events - to give birth to Artful Journeys, a program of art education trips for the soul.
Joan was born and raised in the apple country of the Hudson River Valley in New York; her father was a gentle, very tolerant, educated land surveyor, and her mother was the efficient business administrator and home engineer. The youngest of four children, Joan was encouraged to pursue anything she wanted, but also to do her best. Sometimes that was difficult, especially
succeeding three very accomplished siblings.
