During a painting excursion with the Washington Society of Landscape Painters, I was struck immediately by this scene. This acrylic painting was the first that I did on site at River Farm in Alexandria, Virginia. River Farm is a beautiful site on the Potomac River that was once owned by George Washington. The moment I got to the location, I was immediately interested in this little scene, so much so that I painted it twice. A Day in Obidos

This painting was started as a demonstration for my students while teaching a workshop in Portugal.
It was inspired by a visit to the town of Obidos when my husband and I visited Portugal in 2017. When I spotted these pots of flowers I knew that a painting would likely be made in the future, not realizing that it would take 5 years to make the piece.
This oil painting is 8.5"x8.5" and is on paper mounted to wood. The framed image is for illustration purposes. However, it is ready to hang for a modern appearance on a wooden panel. This painting was inspired by a trip to the Shenandoah that was a welcome respite during lock down due to Covid. I wanted to show how uplifted I was due to being away from only the area not far from my home. As a result, the colors are not realistic. This painting was inspired by a visit to Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. I was on the lookout for very old trees in the state of Virginia, which prompted the visit to the cemetery. These locations are perfect for spotting old specimens. After driving into the driveway, I looked over to see trees that looked like redwoods. Sure enough, the tags on the trees indicated that I was right. California redwoods in Virginia. How lovely and amazing.

Fortunately, I live near a path that takes me into the woods. This painting was inspired by one of my many walks where I am consistently fascinated by the shadows that I see on the ground during my time out in nature. This pastel was made in plein air. It was very hot, and I wanted to play with color in a way that was clearly not what I was actually seeing. While visiting Killarney, Ireland I had only one beautiful morning to visit a small area of the park. I flew out the door of the hotel to see as much as possible before I had to leave. This painting was inspired by the experience, which was a great way to spend a morning on a walk by myself.
