This is a long description:
About a month ago, a cute four year old skipped into my studio followed by her grandmother. There was something in the little girl's impish grin that moved me, and I struck up a conversation by complimenting her on her pink eyeglasses. She then shared with me what interested her at that moment, which was her new dress. Immediately, I mentioned that I liked the horses on her dress, and she responded (in no uncertain terms) that the dress was instead covered in unicorns, I knew that a bond was formed.
She expressed great interest in how I made my paintings, and I enjoy nothing more than talking about making art. So, I talked with her about how I work, the paint that I use, and the colors I like, while finding out about what interested her as well.
As time progressed, she noticed my Posca acrylic pens, and she asked me about them. She had a tough time containing her excitement as I pulled out each colorful pen that she pointed to, and scribbled on a painting panel that was at her eye-level to view.
Once she and her grandmother left the studio, I took a look at the panel and smiled. It was at that point that I saw that my free flowing, fun PLAY with a four year old visitor was the perfect start for the painting above.
Just goes to show you. You never know when inspiration will strike. Sometimes it may come bounding into the room wearing pink glasses and a unicorn dress.
