This painting was inspired by an amazing tree that we encountered in South Africa. I say encountered because it wasn't simply that I saw the tree, the tree was such a magnificent specimen that I was practically transported to another place simply by being around it. I snapped pictures with the idea that someday I would paint it. Rather than someday, I started the painting directly after our return home. The painting isn't a replica of what the tree's appearance was. It is instead a representation of the way that the tree made me feel.
The name of the painting is based on the title of a traditional song of the Xhosa people of South Africa. It is sung at weddings to bring good fortune.
Our wonderful guide spoke multiple languages, including Xhosa and he played the "Click Song" for us when he found out that I was particularly fascinated with the African languages that include clicks. You may listen to the "Click Song" on you devices, simply Google Click Song.
