Judge for yourself

Happily, I recently found out that one of my paintings was selected for exhibition in the Pastel Society of America annual show,  "Enduring Brilliance." The exhibition will be taking place in New York City from September 4 through  September 29.

Having work selected for this show is always competitive, and this year was no different. I sent images of 3 of my latest pastel paintings to potentially be selected.

Unfortunately,  I can't show you the one that was chosen for the show until the exhibition is hung on September 4.

Making lemonade out of that lemon, let's have some fun.

Tell me your favorite painting and why you think that your pick should be in the show in the comments below.

I will then put your name into a hat and whoever is selected will receive a gift of a package of notecards with my artwork on them.

Can't wait to see what you think!

PS. I will announce the winner on September 5. Be sure to check back here then. I will announce the winner in the comments, and we will figure out how to get your prize to you!

PSS. If you are interested in purchasing a reproduction or the original of one of these pieces just hit the little contact rectangle on the upper right of your screen (with my email address), and let me know.

Thanks for taking time to read my missives and for adding your input. In case you haven't seen the comments, "Remain Standing" seems to be the most popular one. I will announce the one that was selected on September 5. Stay tuned.

I like Remain Standing because of the nice balance of warm and cool colors. Also the strokes of the pastel aren't all in the same direction so there is a good amount of variety. One keeps looking at it to see more interesting things.

I vote for Terrain. It is both calm and has some tension between the elements for a little excitement, a still horizon but movement in the colors as a compliment, and I just like it a lot.

I'm torn between Remain Standing and Terrain both are beautiful in their own way. I think it may be Remain Standing, the colors and the reflection is beautiful. Congrats! ,but there is something pulling towards Terrain.

I like Remain Standing. I like the way you created the focal point with the warm colors and small shapes in the center and being led to it by the larger cool colors. Lynn, I really enjoy the abstractness your pieces are beginning to take!

I love them ALL!!! Each has an artistic appeal quite separate from the others. OK, OK, if I have to guess which one the judges chose for the exhibit, I'll give Remain Standing the edge. No matter the show final vote, they are ALL winners & should be seen by the world. Beautiful works, Lynn.

All 3 are beautiful, but there is something with all those small details in the bottom part of Terrain that captures my attention. I also love the yellow in it and all the shades of blue. I love the trees in Haze.

Terrain would be my guess for the winning entry. It has a very strong visual impact that just pops! The painting conveys a feeling of warmth and coolness at the same time, and the composition evokes the feel of either a sea scene or a mountain scene. The whole painting has a brilliance to it and because the show is called Enduring Brilliance, then I think it's the middle image. I also like the other two pictures--the directional play in the first one, Remain Standing, and the contrasts of muted and key bright colors in the Haze one. Beautiful work, Lynn. Thanks for letting friends have fun with this game!

All three are wonderful pieces and I would love to display any of these in my humble residence. However, "Remain Standing" is the most dazzling of the three. The brilliance of the pastel and abstract subject are truly extraordinary and captured my attention immediately. And the longer you observe (and this is only an image), the more I get drawn in to the piece. That is my vote.

Remain Standing is my favorite - it's a place I'd like to be. It is relaxing near the tree, yet energizing near the light.

I'd bet the New York pick is Terrain, though. 💗

I vote for Haze. It seems more unique as a composition. It's more of a painting of the feeling of being among the trees or the treetops, than of a specific landscape. It's very special, and as a work of art, it feels to me that I am interacting with it, not just viewing it. I like the other two, but if I were the judge, it's the one which stands out to my eye.

All three are beautiful, but my pick is Haze. I am drawn to the colors and the perceived movement caused by the contrast of the light in the middle. The entire piece feels like you’re coming out into a clearing, almost like “seeing the light” or gaining clarity. The title completes it and ties it all together. Truly lovely!
